The trail includes visiting an iconic West Coast farm, walking along pristine beaches, a hike along coastal single-track paths and much, much more. Please note that we embrace the idea of ‘slow living’, allowing one to take time and enjoy the finer things in life. Our itinerary shifts slightly depending on the weather, season and availability. The trail requires guests to be moderately fit and is suitable for families, children above 12.

Our trails are all-inclusive. We provide all meals, accommodation, local guide, transport of luggage and daily activities.
Arrive: Friday 10 April
Check-in after 14h00 at the Rocherpan Nature Reserve. You will have the afternoon to settle in, explore the reserve and visit the bird hides. Guests will be treated to a home-cooked meal prepared by your host. Overnight at the Rocherpan Nature Reserve.
Hiking Day 1: Saturday 11 April 7.5 km followed by 5 km (12 km)
Guests will meet their guide and be ready to depart for the morning hike. A simple continental breakfast is served before beginning the morning walk. We allow for 2.5 hours on this leg of the Crayfish Trail. Wind your way through beautiful single track and wooden paths hedged by fynbos, alongside pan to the lookout point. You then return along the beach and back to your overnight accommodation.
Guests are transported to Vensterklip to enjoy lunch and explore Verlorenvlei, a protected wetland and Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA). Next you will explore the small fishing and surfing town of Elands Bay. Your guide will show you Baboon Point, a provincial heritage site, along with the caves and rock art left by the San. Enjoy a sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. Whether you are at the bar or the restaurant, your hosts at Vensterklip will make sure you are looked after and feel right at home. West Coast hospitality at its best!
Hiking Day 2: Sunday 12 April 9 km
Guests are transported to Steenbokfontein farm, to the starting point. Here you will begin a 9 km hike towards Lamberts Bay. The terrain varies between sandy beach, jeep track and strandveld dune paths. This is a special day of hiking which gives our guests a real taste of the vastness of the West Coast, as well as the beauty and resilience of all which inhabits the coastline.
You will also visit Bird Island, another Cape Nature Reserve which is home to the rare and endangered breeding colony of Cape Gannet’s. Guests will have a chance to see the harbour and hear from local fishermen about an exciting initiative called Abalobi. Guests will have the afternoon to relax/explore as they wish.
Overnight in Lamberts Bay.
Departure day: Monday 13 April 9 km
Early morning. Packed and ready to go. Transport will leave the accommodation early following a scenic drive to the small town of Strandfontein. Enjoy a 9 km hike along the single-track path with ocean and fynbos on either side. This is a highlight of the 3 Day Trail with truly magnificent views.
There is generally easy access along the route for a vehicle. In the case of emergency we can arrange a pick-up. Guests will return to their vehicles at Rocherpan between 14h00 and 15h00. It is then a 2 hour drive back to Cape Town.
