The Crayfish Trail – November 2019

The West Coast is a region of long white beaches, stretched of sandy coastal vegetation, rocky shorelines and high cliff faces. There are remote, picturesque fishing villages, ancient rock caves and wetlands that team with birdlife. In spring the walk is alive with wild flowers and although the water is cold, there are swimming opportunities along the way. In its full version it is a 5 day / 5 niight trail, with section options available for private groups. Much of the trail is along the beach with path deviating into the vegetation and onto jeep tracks from time to time. There is a  visit to an historical rock art site near Elands Bay, a stop at the unusual gannet colony at Lamberts Bay and a abalone processing factory at Doringbaai. Most evenings includea a sampling of local wines and certainly tasting of local seafood and cuisine.
