Oyster Catcher Trail

One of the first ‘slackpacking’ trails established in South Africa, the Oystercatcher Trail is a superb coastal walk, varying from cliff paths to beach and spectacular sand dunes. The hiking is generally easy going over moderate distances, although a good level of hiking fitness is recommended. Hikers return to the same accommodation each evening having covered a different section of the coast. There is an interesting variation in flora and landscape and evenings are spent socializing, enjoying the excellent evening meal and retiring to comfortable beds.

There is lots of small animals like buck and tortoises and massive verity of birdlife along the Oystercatcher Trail.
The endangered Black African Oystercatcher bird can also be seen on the route.

The weather in our area is generally quite stable throughout the year therefore hiking is possible year-round. During hot summer days the hikers can take a swim. In our cooler winter months, it is great to sit around a cosy kaggel/fireplace in the evenings.

Seasonality & Best Time Year

All year round is a great time to hike.

Winter time (June – August) might be the best time since you can see whales during that time, and it is great to have a drink and a chat around a cosy fire in the evenings with dinner.
